So a new obsession of mine - blogs! I have started to follow a lot of blogs here lately, whether they are friends of mine, or complete strangers that I have heard about from other blogger friends! I love reading and seeing photos and learning about things, through blogs. My latest interest is weight loss and healthy eating blogs. MSN ran an article about people's weight loss and 2 of them had blogs tracking their lives during this process. So I decided to check them out. I LOVE reading this one girls blog. She is around my age and just seems so normal, and lost the weight the hard way. No medicine, no help, besides some "training" from her best friend and just healthy eating and exercise. She still splurges every once in awhile on things she enjoys but looks great. She also posts pictures of her food and thinks she cooks each week. It's pretty encouraging and I enjoy reading these real life stories as I am really struggling with this right now.
One thing I would love to ask the blogger world out there (Even though I know no one reads this, but maybe, just maybe, there is a stranger out there that comes across this, like I have many other blogs). My husband loves to eat out. He can, he runs over 40 miles a week, bikes sometimes over 40 miles a week and swims too. Goes to the gym during lunch because he works at a company that provides a gym for them. I just don't have the time, nor the energy like he does to work off all the bad food, so I just can't eat like him. Even when I was training for half marathons and working out sometimes twice a day, I wasn't loosing the weight and got discouraged. I feel like I eat pretty healthy everyday. But what does a wife do when her husband wants to go out to eat? I can't say - Ok, have fun! I'll eat at home, alone. I try my best to eat salads, fruits, or the more healthy options from wherever we end up going. But it's sooooo hard not to take a bite of one (or a few) of his french fries, have a sip of his soft drink, or not consume my whole meal with chips and salsa!!
We have really been good about not going out to eat. We usually have one date night a week where we go somewhere and splurge. So we do cook at home during the week and I bring my lunch to work everyday. I guess its the weekends that are killing me. I need ways to minimize my calorie intake when going out to eat?. How in the world do people substitute things and figure out how to loose weight, when still having this in their diet, say 3 times a week? I need to find a website of fast food restaurants or other places to eat that have their nutrition information so I can plan ahead and decide what I am going to get. Before getting there and just getting whatever because I can't decide, and then feeling AWFUL afterwards. I know Robby is tired of me saying, my stomach hurts, after everything I eat. Every social activity also involves food, and usually going out to eat too. Last night, our small group had a dinner social night. We went to a mexican restaurant, my favorite!!!! I have gotten to the point where I feel soooo gross that my motivation and determination are starting to kick in. Slowly, but they are. I did not have one bite of the chips and salsa. HUGE success as I usually can't contain myself. I only had 2 small tacos, nothing extra on the side and it was grilled chicken. Can't be to bad, right? I don't drink soft drinks, but my weakness is sweet tea. But I am also cheap and don't want to pay over $2.50 for a freaking drink so I always get water no matter what. But sometimes, especially after a hot day or a long workout, I will take sips of Robby's drink, that's better than a WHOLE glass of coke though.
So my point is, my new goal is finding ways to eat with my husband when he is wanting to go out, but keeping it light and on my "plan". This will be tough but I will do it. :) I don't know how these women post about their weight. That is one thing I won't be able to do, at least not right now. I know they say that it helps keep them accountable. Maybe I will create a secret blog so I can be feel accountable, even though no one will know it's me :), but right now... I will just stick with being vague on here. No one wants to know all those nasty details anyways!
Back to the blogging!! I love it! Again, I'm sure people would rather just see pictures of things we are doing than to read my entire life story. Sorry!! Your the one that chose to follow me. You always have the option, like facebook, to block or "defriend" us. :) I have a bunch of new blogs I am following, complete strangers though, but they are about cooking, working out, diy projects (which I really want to start doing), etc so its fun to follow and see what others are up to.
My next post will be better than today's. We bought a canoe on Monday so I need to get some pictures and will post about it. Robby has been wanting a canoe for awhile and we found a great deal on one so we got it. Plus, he is having to increase his training schedule and I just can't keep up with him. Swimming over a mile - just can't do it, nor do I really want to. One mile in the nasty lake is good enough for me. So I will be paddling along side him, cheering him on while he trains!! :) Should be fun. Then once this is over with, we will be taking it down the Chattahoochee together. Can't wait!
Happy Wednesday!! This was a random blog but I'm feeling all kinds of things today and its hump day so there :)
Excuse me, you DO have followers...what am I, chopped liver?!? I'm sure you've already looked into different ideas, especially if you are reading health blogs, but one thing I force myself to do when we eat out is to order something grilled chicken (usually a sandwich) and make my side item a plain baked potato. From there, I only allow myself to eat 1/2 of my meal. These keeps me from getting the overstuffed I'm going to lose my food in the parking lot feeling that always seems to come when it's time to walk out...that, and you'll have leftovers for the next day! I also made sure to pick a few items from Wendy's or Taco Bell that a little healthier than others, that I know I can rely on when we just have to get fast food. They both have their nutrition info posted, so it helps for those drive-thru moments.
ReplyDeleteIf anything, you're doing so much better than most people (myself included) I know!! Keep your head up, and I'll let you know if I come across some good blogs in my cyber stalkings. : )
yes, you are my newest follower!!! and the ONLY one who comments :) so you are not chopped liver.
ReplyDeletei know the portion control is what i need to work on. The Today show keeps showing, eat this not that things, and telling the calories in foods that I have had before at restaurants. OMG!!! Disgusting. and how the places are serving such huge portions, could be divided into 2 or 3 servings. Why does America want to make us fatter than we already are! Don't get it. Id rather pay less for less food. I need to start the whole getting a to go box and halving my food so I only eat so much.
Thanks for your comment Erica! :)
