Pinterest Inspired

I have to give a couple shout outs to my friend Erica in this blog post. First one, she introduced me to the newest website addiction - Pinterest. I swore I was not going to add another site to my list of things that I do every night. But, Robby is busy training and I have been pretty bored at home. The dogs can only entertain me for so long. Plus, fall has arrived and the holidays are coming up and I really want to start making things or finding great deals on items to decorate the house. Plus, I have always loved being creative, I just need something to start those creative juices flowing in me. Pinterest has done just that. I LOVE it. I am on it almost everyday looking for new things to create or do.

Now, I am also bad about never following through with my ideas/plans. I talk about how much I want to make something or buy it, but I never do. Procrastination takes in and then its to late. This time I DID IT! I headed to Hobby Lobby on my lunch break to find the supplied I need: some miniature plastic pumpkins, fake moss (just the right color and texture), a foam ring, glue (that will be used for more craft projects) and ribbon (just the right shade of brown). I immediately found the cutest pumpkins and they were decently priced and on sale! Score!!! So I bought 6 plain pumpkins and 7-8 sparkly pumpkins.

Then I found my foam ring and the brown ribbon to wrap it with and to make my bow.

I bought a satin type of ribbon. It was perfect to wrap the foam ring but I think it would have been better to have gotten the more wire and thicker ribbon for the bows. But, I'm also terrible at making bows so that could have been my problem with the ribbon :)

Then it was the moss. Who knew there was all kinds of types of moss to choose from. Ugh! So I just went with the Green American..... something something type of moss.

I used my super sticky glue to attach it to the ring, only on one side. The moss stays together pretty well so it didn't need to much glue to keep it on there. Plus when you put the pumpkins on there it holds it on too.
I couldn't decide how I was going to attach the pumpkins. The sparkly ones are lighter than the plain ones so I could have just glued those on and they would be fine. But luckily, the plain ones had a pre-cut hole in the bottom so I was able to push some glue in the hole, stick the toothpick in there, more glue to the bottom of the pumpkin and then pushed the toothpick into the wreath. They aren't going anywhere! I hope. I ended up using the toothpicks for the sparkly ones to. So I alternated the sparkly and the plain. Spice it up a bit! ha :)

Left room at the top for the bow

I can't really describe how I made the bow. It really wasn't all that great. I basically youtubed videos on how to tie bows :) found one that was super easy, in my eyes, and just did it and attached. Didn't think to much of it or I don't think I would ever had been happy with it.

Below is the finished product on our front door. Its a little small for the door, even though you can't tell by this picture. I had to add the ribbon hanging part because it looked silly sitting so high up on the window. I actually really like how it turned out.

I did this project pretty late at night after a long day and cooking a big meal for dinner. I could have spent more time on making it "perfect" but this will do. Especially for my FIRST craft project!!

Here is what I had as my inspiration - a $100 wreath from Williams-Sonoma. CRAZY!!! I did this whole project for about $30. I was going to buy more pumpkins to put in the center part of mine to make it more full looking like this one, but I think its good enough :) Plus I am not Williams-Sonoma, I have my own style and it fits us :)
My next shout out to Erica is for her help today at the Goodwill store. We found some sweet finds! I got a whole bag of fake fruit. I mean, HUGE, bag. Not sure how it will all be displayed but I also bought a cool glass cylinder and a basket to use in some way. Erica helped me brainstorm (on our "smoke break") to come up with all kinds of  ways to display the fruit. We don't have much room in our house to display a lot of these, but I will find a way. If not, I will just save it for when we get a bigger home :) I will post my creations later when I have time to play around with them some. So stay tuned...... and I'm also doing research on my next pinterest inspired craft. Follow me and let me know of more ideas!!!
