Silver Comet Trail

This weekend was my first bike ride on the Silver Comet Trail down in Smyrna Ga. I've been wanting to go for a few years now but I don't feel safe going by myself and I can't keep up with the 30+ miles that Robby does when he goes. So we decided to go for a nice little outing together on Saturday. We only went 10 miles, 5 miles out on the trail and 5 miles back. I was really struggling. I haven't ridden my bike in awhile, at least not like I used to, so I was really out of shape. Plus, the trail is so deceiving. It's nicely paved and lined along the tree lines so all shaded, but it looks flat. HA! It has a slight incline to it and man, what a workout. I was ready to turn around by mile 3, but kept going. We had a lot of fun. It wasn't to busy and because of all the shade, not to hot either. I only got a few pictures while we were on the trail. Kind of hard to take pictures when trying to balance on a bike :)

I definitely want to go back, to ride bikes again or do some running on the trails. But I need to get in better shape to make it longer. For those of you that don't know much about this trail, it runs 61 miles from Smyrna Georgia all the way to Alabama. At the Georgia/Alabama state line, the Silver Comet connects to the 33-mile long Chief Ladiga Trail. Plans are underway to extend the Chief Ladiga an additional 7 miles. Both the Silver Comet Trail and Chief Ladiga are fully paved rail-trails built on abandoned railroad lines. The combined Silver Comet and Chief Ladiga trail length is estimated to be over 100 paved miles from Smyrna, Georgia to Anniston, Alabama. Not sure if we will ever do the whole thing, but its pretty cool to think about. There is a half and full marathon race that is done on the trail. That might be something to look into. We love living so close to these kind of places for us to take advantage of. Plus its free!

What did you do this weekend? Anything exciting? The weekend is almost over, very sad. I'm not a big fan of Mondays. Hope this week goes by fast.
